Video: How to install 4G/5G antennas

How to Install 4G/5G Antennas

The video shows step by step the most important aspects to consider before starting the installation work and what to keep in mind during the installation. The video demonstrates the installation of Triax D5A 4G/5G antennas with a pole mount on the eaves of a house.

Installation Steps

1.

Determine the internet connection speed using a speed test to establish the starting point.

2.Find out which telecom provider's connection is being used in the router.
3.

Select the optimal base station using a mast map (cellmapper.net or the telecom provider's customer service).

4.Check the antenna connection points on the router (Commonly used connectors: SMA, TS9, ...).
5.Measure the distance between the router and the antenna installation location.
6.Install wall brackets on the side of the house or mount an antenna mast, for example, on the gable wall of the house.
7.Attach the antennas using the mast brackets supplied with the antennas.
8.

Aim the antennas towards the base station.

9.

Run the cables through the wall.

10.

Connect the antenna cables to the router and compare the improvement in speed using a speed test, relative to the starting point.

Bracket Installation

In the video, antennas are installed on the eaves of the house using a pole bracket. In this case, the homeowners did not want to drill holes in the house's wall, so they chose to install the bracket on the eaves. There are also many other mounting accessories that can be used for antenna installation.

Antenna Mounting and Direction

The antenna set includes a mast bracket, which makes it easy to attach the antennas to the wall bracket or antenna mast.

The antennas can be mounted in two different positions, allowing the use of cross-polarization technology. Cross-polarization can be formed from two separate antennas by installing both at a 45-degree angle to the sides, forming a 90-degree angle with each other, or by positioning the upper antenna vertically and the lower antenna horizontally. Both installation angles are based on the signal propagation directions, which travel in vertical and horizontal planes.

When using two antennas, the so-called MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology can be utilized to receive both vertical and horizontal polarization frequencies.

The antennas should be installed about 70 cm apart from each other, and the same distance should be maintained from the roof of the house and any possible TV antenna if the installation is done on an existing antenna mast. The installation can also be easily done on a wall with a wall bracket.

Connecting the Antennas to the Router

Once the antenna cables are brought inside, they are connected to the router using the SMA connectors at the ends of the cables. Most router models have two SMA antenna connections.

Another popular router model has two TS9 antenna connections, for which short adapter cables are needed to connect the antennas. You can learn more about this here: How to connect antennas to a 4G router

After Installation

Determine with a speed test how the external antennas have affected your home internet connection. You can further investigate the signal strength and quality (RSRP, RSRQ, and SINR) from the router's settings.
