4G antennas

Improving your home internet connection with a 4G/5G antenna

Establishing a reliable wireless network connection to devices such as computers and mobile phones can sometimes be challenging. When faced with a weak 4G connection, we recommend purchasing an external 4G/5G antenna. A high-quality and optimally designed 4G/5G antenna provides a good foundation for receiving a fast and functional 4G signal. Factors that affect antenna selection include distance from the transmitter and obstacles in front, such as buildings and terrain. Significant signal attenuation can be caused by factors such as dense forests or high terrain obstacles. In such cases, a well-placed, suitable antenna can significantly improve signal strength. How do I choose the right 4G/5G antenna?

Panel-type MIMO antennas

The polarization of the two internal antenna elements beneath the panel is at a 90-degree angle, so the panel antenna can also be called a cross-polarization antenna. The panel antenna has a wide directional pattern, so it is sufficient to install the antenna facing roughly towards the base station, such as on the wall of the house.

Antenna usage:

5G support, multiple base stations in the same direction, wall-mounted

Antenna direction:
For panel antennas, it is enough to point the antenna roughly towards the base station.
Technology:
MIMO, cross-polarization
Area:
City, suburbs, rural areas
Frequencies:
698-960, 1690-2700, 3300-4000 MHz
Compatible router:
Routers with two antenna connectors (SMA connector) or with TS9 connectors using adapter cables.
Installation:
With the mast bracket that comes with the antenna. Can also be installed with a separate wall bracket on the outside wall of the house.
Selection:

    Directional MIMO antennas

A directional antenna is the most accurate in its directionality, and thus with optimal directionality, it is possible to achieve the best reception with this type of antenna. Therefore, it is aimed as precisely as possible towards the base station, and even a few centimeters change in direction can make a difference. With a directional antenna, the directional pattern is narrow, so directionality is much more accurate than with other types of antennas. You can find out the locations of different operators' base stations from Cellmapper's 4G coverage map. The T-bracket designed for the antenna makes it easier to install the antennas at an optimal angle, and at the same time, the bracket allows for convenient installation on the wall of the house.

    Antenna use:

Aimed towards one base station, and the immediate surroundings are open without tall obstacles in the direction of the base station.

    Antenna directionality:
Aimed as precisely as possible towards the base station, and even a few centimeters change in direction can make a difference.
    Technology:
    MIMO, cross-polarization
    Area:
Rural areas, outskirts of urban areas, countryside
    Frequencies:
    698-960 / 1710-2700 / 3300-3600 / 4800-5000 MHz
    Compatible router:
Routers with two antenna connections (SMA connector) or adapter cables to routers with TS9 connectors.

    Omni-Directional MIMO Antennas

Omni-directional 4G antennas are used in densely populated areas surrounded by many base stations within a short distance. The antenna does not need to be directed, as the omni-directional model receives the signal from many different directions. It is well suited for use in recreational vehicles and boating. Kotiantenni's omni-directional 4G antenna is easily transportable and can be easily carried with you, for example, when working remotely at a cottage. It is also one of the most discreet 4G antenna models, making it well suited for indoor installation, such as in office spaces.

How to aim a 4G/5G antenna?

      1. Attach the antennas to the antenna mast or wall mount tube in the direction of the base station. You can try aiming the antenna at ground level, but you'll get the best results the higher up you can install the antennas. During aiming, the antennas should be loosely attached so that they can be easily turned in the mount to determine the precise direction.

      2. There are three types of antennas in terms of aiming. Omnidirectional antennas, as the name suggests, do not need to be aimed at all, and for panel antennas, aiming roughly in the direction of the base station is enough. Directional antennas have the narrowest beamwidth, so directional antennas can maximize both the received signal strength and the transmitted signal back towards the base station.

      3. Aiming directional antennas may require a little more time during installation than other antenna models, but it is often worth the effort to enable a stable and fast internet connection. Due to the narrow beamwidth of directional antennas, changing the direction by as little as 20 cm can have a significant impact on signal reception and transmission.

      4. When using directional antennas, confirm the direction with a few speed tests, such as on the speedtest.net website, and adjust the antenna direction as needed, 20 cm at a time.

      5. After aiming, tighten the antennas and connect the cables from the antennas to the router.
