Improving mobile network coverage (4G / 5G) at the cottage can be achieved by enhancing signal reception with an external antenna connected to a 4G/5G router. There are various external antennas available to improve internet connections, which you can find in the 4G / 5G antenna product range from Kotiantenni.

|1.||First, check which operator's internet connection you use and where the optimal base station is located. You can inquire about local base stations either from the operator's customer service or from the Cellmapper map service's coverage map. In addition to the base station location information, it is worth finding out the frequency at which the support mast sends the signal and in which direction the operator's base station transmitters are pointed. Sometimes, a more distant base station may be a more optimal option for directing your antennas than the nearest one.|
|2.||Check whether your router has SMA or TS9 connectors. The SMA connector is screwed on, and the TS9 connector is pushed in. In many SMA connector routers, you will find approximately 15 cm antennas screwed into the connection points. You can find more instructions on connecting the antenna to the router in our article on the subject: How to connect an external 4G antenna to a router.|
|3.||Choose the highest and best visible location for the 4G / 5G antenna installation as close to the direction of the base station as possible. More about antenna alignment in our article on the subject: 4G/5G antenna alignment.|
|4.||Before installation, estimate the length of the distance between the antenna installation site and the router. Antennas have fixed cables, but lengths vary between models from two to fifteen meters. To avoid signal attenuation, the optimal option is to have the connection run from the antenna to the router with the antenna's own cable without additional extensions.|
|5.||After connecting external antennas to the router, you can use a speed test to see what kind of results you get for signal download and upload speeds.|
